Governor Rick Scott to unveil budget, tax cut proposals
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Governor Rick Scott will unveil his long-awaited budget proposals today in Eustis.
Members of the Florida Tea Party will be first to hear the announcement, during a private noon luncheon. Afterwards, at 1:30 p.m., Scott will give a speech at a nearby park.
The governor has stated he plans to narrow the state’s $3.6 billion deficit with lower spending. But he also plans to cuts taxes by $2 billion.
In news briefings last week, Scott also indicated he would cut Florida jobs by 5 percent, lower pension costs by requiring employees to contribute, cut property levies by 19 percent and shrink the corporate tax rate by 2.5 percent.
A second budget announcement will be made at the state Capital at 4:00 p.m.
