TAMPA — The 7-year-old critically injured in a van crash Monday has died.

Anja-J’Kovi Jackson was among 11 children riding in a 2000 Voyager van, none of whom were wearing seatbelts. Deputies say the driver, her mother, lost control and smashed into a retention wall on Lynn Turner Road near Village view Drive.

The crash happened around 10 a.m. as she was driving south on Lynn-Turner Road.

Detectives say the investigation is ongoing. The girl’s mother, Amanda J. Nelson, 34, has not been charged, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Nelson, of 5740 Ridgestone Drive, also was not wearing a seat belt.

Only Anja-J’Kovi, sustained incapacitating injuries. She was taken to St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital in critical condition Monday, sheriff’s spokesman J.D. Callaway said.

She died in the hospital Wednesday.
