Gary Coleman’s Ex Bids to Take Over Estate

June 15th, 2010 by

(NewsCore) – Gary Coleman’s ex-wife Shannon Price filed court papers Thursday in Utah to take over the late actor’s estate, RadarOnline reported.

Price, 24, wants to become special administrator of Coleman’s estate and a court hearing will be held on Monday.

Price and Coleman’s former manager Dion Mial are battling over the star’s estate. Mial is contesting a will written in 2007 that leaves everything to Price.

In the will Coleman writes Price is the “sole heir of any and all monies, properties, bank accounts, earnings, model trains, vehicles, cars, toys, games, electronics, homes, other inheritances if any, all things physical and/or intellectual.”

Mial argues the will is invalid because it was a hand-written codicil to a 1999 will and because they divorced in 2008.

Mial was named the executor of Coleman’s estate in the 1999 will. He stands to benefit from it because of a trust provision.

In the court documents filed Thursday Price argues she was Coleman’s common-law wife and therefore has power over “disposition of the body”.

Utah is one of 10 states which has legislated common-law marriage.

Coleman and Price married in 2007 when she was 22 and he was 39. They divorced in 2008 but Price said they planned to remarry.

Coleman was taken off life support and died at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center on May 28 after hitting his head at his home and suffering a brain hemorrhage. He was 42.

He is to be cremated in Utah as per his wishes on his will, after his parents dropped a legal battle to have his remains buried in Zion, Ill, where he was born.

Price told Entertainment Tonight she planned to spread some of the ashes around train tracks to mark his passion for railways.
