The Foo Fighters have been making all sorts of news on their summer tour from Dave Grohl falling off the stage and breaking his leg in Sweden to his amazing guitar throne he is still using on the outing. The group has also regularly invited fans on stage including a drummer who joined the band for “Big Me,” an emotional fan during “My Hero” and another fan who joined the band to sing a cover of the Rush classic “Tom Sawyer.”
At the band’s Aug. 24 show in Clarkston, Mich., Grohl invited a fan who was celebrating his 50th birthday on stage. The man named Griffin, held a sign that said “It’s my 50th, Let’s have a beer!!!” Grohl obliged by bringing him up on stage and chugging a beer together. Watch the video in the player above.
As Grohl introduced the fan he said, “Griffin went to Office Depot and bought one piece of cardboard and a magic marker… and that’s all it takes.” The two quickly drank a beer before Grohl told him to “Get the f—k off my stage” and then wished him a happy birthday.
In other Foos news, during a recent stop in Calgary, Grohl took some time on stage to rip bands that perform short sets. The singer stated, “You don’t want one of those little hour-and-a-half-long shows, do you? You don’t want that s–t. All of those new bands that play those little two-hour concerts, you don’t want that s–t. Two hours and 15, I don’t think is enough. Two and a half hours, does that sound okay? That’s not enough, is it?”
He continued: “Here’s our f–king problem. We’ve been a band for 20 f–king years, we have a lot of f–king songs, and then add my big mouth on top of that, and we’re going to be here all night.”
The Foo Fighters are still out on the road, playing epic shows, and they will take the stage at Wrigley Field in Chicago with Cheap Trick on Saturday (Aug. 29).
