EATON, Ohio — Deputies in Preble County said they arrested an escaped prisoner from Mississippi after locating him watching a movie at the Petro Truck Stop on U.S. Route 40 near Interstate 70.
On Friday night, deputies were contacted by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations requesting help in apprehending 23-year-old Vernon Sullivan. They said they believed that Sullivan was at the truck stop after tracing cell phone activity.
Sullivan was one of two inmates who escaped from the Simpson County Jail earlier in the week after assaulting corrections officers and taking keys and a Taser gun, Authorities said. Investigators in Mississippi said Sullivan is also accused of committing an armed robbery after his escape, stealing a truck and an ATM card from the truck’s owner.
The stolen truck was found in Knoxville, Tenn. Authorities warned that Sullivan may have been armed and dangerous.
Plainclothes deputies went to the truck stop and set up surveillance. They said a man matching Sullivan’s description was found in the movie theater at the truck stop and taken into custody.
Sullivan is being held in the Preble County Jail awaiting extradition back to Mississippi. According to deputies in Simpson County, Sullivan has an extensive criminal history and is currently on parole.
