PALM BAY, Fla. –
A Brevard County doctor has been charged with beating his wife with a hammer nearly to death.

Tim Truitt is accused of trying to kill his wife, Susan, in their $1.36 million Indian Harbour Beach home.

A neighbor said the doctor came running up to his door drenched in blood, saying his wife had been assaulted. Police said the hammer had been broken in the attack.

Truitt is a doctor at Palm Bay Community hospital. Susan Truitt is an artist with works in two local galleries. Doctors said she had severe wounds to both sides of her head and she didn’t appear to be breathing.

Police said Tim Truitt told them that he was in another part of the house when the attack happened, and he didn’t know who did it.

Police said Susan Truitt was revived enough to implicate her husband in the beating.

An acquaintance told WESH 2 that her husband was having an affair, which was the source of the couple’s problems.

Tim Truitt’s bond is set at $1 million. He’s charged with aggravated battery and attempted murder.
