Milton, Ind.— A Wayne County woman is charged with murder after police say she burned her father alive.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Nina Holbrook, 30, admitted to detectives, Friday, she “torched” 50 year old Carl Holbrook.

Officers were called to the Holbrook home on Chapel Road in Milton after getting a 911 call about a severely burned victim. When medics arrived at the scene, they found Carl lying on the back porch with burns over his entire body and the majority of his clothing burnt off.

Police say the dad was supposed to meet someone at the house when his daughter called him to come inside. Nina told police she poured a can of camper fuel into a cup and lit a candle. When her father walked into her bedroom, she said she threw the glass at his face and shoved the candle at his chest. She said she then left the house and started walking down Chapel Road.

According to court documents, Carl told the person he was meeting that Nina set him on fire. When detectives asked Nina what happened, she answered “I set my dad on fire.”

Nina told police she poured gasoline into a small cup and lit a candle. Then she called for her dad to come into her bedroom. When he showed up, she threw the cup at his face and shoved the candle at his chest.”

Kyle Carpenter saw Nina right afterwards and asked her if she was alright. He told Fox 59, she showed no remorse.

“She smiled at me and she said ‘No sir, I’m fine. Thank you very much,’ and gave me a thumbs up.”

Nina is being held at the Wayne County jail without bond. She’s charged with one felony count of murder and two counts of arson. Her trial date is set for October 11th.
