Cops: Man Killed Wife, Her Boyfriend With Daughter Home
ORLANDO, Fla. – Police in Orlando are investigating a double homicide after they say a man broke into his estranged wife’s home and shot and killed her and her new boyfriend while his teen daughter was inside. A judge Monday morning denied bond for the 45-year-old suspect.
Police said they responded to a prowler call just before 10:00pm Sunday at the 5400 block of Lake Margaret Drive after a neighbor said they saw 45-year-old Eligio Isalgue peeking through the victim’s apartment windows.
Eyewitnesses told police Isalgue attempted to kick in the front door, but when he failed he moved to the rear sliding glass door and forcefully broke into the apartment. Police said Isalgue then opened fire on his estranged wife, 49-year-old Rosa Barrientos Isalgue, and her new boyfriend, 48-year-old Raymond D. Treasure, with a .40-caliber handgun. They were both killed, police said.
Police said Isalgue’s 13-year-old daughter and a friend of the family were in the apartment at the time of the shooting. Police said they were not injured.
The 13-year-old girl told investigators she saw her father shoot out a sliding glass door and walk into the apartment with a gun. She said she immediately hid in a bathroom and heard several gunshots; when she walked out, her father begged her to forgive him for killing her mother.
“Now you’ve got a family grieving, along with a 13-year-old who went to middle school, and it’s just the beginning of something she will never be able to forget,” said Barb Jones, Orlando Police Department.
Police arrested Isalgue in the parking lot after he left the apartment. They said the gun was found inside the home.
Officials said Isalgue and Barrientos had been married for 20 years, but had not lived together for two months. In 2002, Isalgue and Barrientos filed for divorce, according to the Orange County Clerk Of Courts Office.
A background check on the couple’s history revealed one domestic violence case against Isalgue in 1998 with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Police said the charges were dropped due to declination to prosecute.
Isalgue is being held without bond at the Orange County jail on two counts of first-degree murder.
The names of the daughter and the friend have not been released. The investigation is ongoing.
