Clown-Masked Robber Surprises Woman On Toilet

Robbery isn’t a laughing matter, typically. How about when a suspect, wearing a clown mask, robs an Akron woman while she’s on the commode?

“This character in a clown mask threw open my bathroom door. I was on the commode. So, it was kind of a surprise,” 70-year-old Jacqueline Cutright said.

Cory Buckley, 20, of Akron had a knife and got into Cutright’s home through a basement window, according to Akron police officers.

Cutright said the suspect made off with $28, about $1,000 worth of costume jewelry and her Ford Escort last Saturday.

He wanted to know where all my drugs and money were, she said.

“I said, ‘Boy, did you break into the wrong house.’ ”

Cutright thought Buckley was going to take a silver bracelet a friend gave her, but the masked suspect gave it back.

She said that was when she knew he meant her no harm.

“The bracelet said, ‘A mother holds her children’s hands for a while but their hearts forever,’ which I think is lovely, and when he read that he gave it back to me. That’s when I thought, ‘This man’s not going to hurt me.’ ”

Buckley fled the scene in Cutright’s Ford after two hours of ransacking her home.

He didn’t get far, though. Buckley rolled the vehicle twice, crawled out of the crashed vehicle’s window and made a full confession to officers.

The confession came just as the knife dropped to the pavement in front of the arresting officers’ feet.

Cutright said she thought about taking out the suspect herself but then thought better of it.

“I thought about doing ninja stuff to him, but I thought, ‘No, he’s faster than I am.’ So, I more or less just sat there on the lid.”
