Chimp Attack Victim Shows Off New Face

August 11th, 2011 by Staff

Charla Nash – the Connecticut woman who was viciously mauled by her friend’s chimpanzee two years ago – is ready to show off her new face.

Nash, who showed her scarred face on a 2009 episode of “Oprah,” had a face transplant at Boston’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital earlier this year.

“These transplants could not have been possible without the generosity of a family unknown to me. They gave me a face and hands,” Nash said in a press release. “I will now be able to do things I once took for granted. I will be able to smell. I will be able to eat normally. I will no longer be disfigured. I will have lips and will speak clearly once again. I will be able to kiss and hug loved ones. I am tremendously grateful to the donor and her family.

The surgery took 20-hours and the surgical team consisted of more than 30 people. Dr. Bohdan Pomahac, who led the team, attempted a hand transplant on Nash as well, but they failed to thrive and was later removed.

Nash, 58, currently lives in a rehabilitation center near Boston. The attack left her blinded, without hands, a nose, lips and eyelids.

What did she look like before the attack. It would be weird
to look like s total different person.

I think that is the most amazing thing that could happen to anyone in her condition. Im happy for her and want to say thanks to the family who donated the face and hands. Even though the hands didn’t take, she can at least eat, smell and feel the love of her family and friends again through hugs and kisses. Congratulations Charla!!!

That is a night and Day diffidence. She may be blind now, but that fact that she lived threw the attack and then a whole shit load of surgeries, that is called the will to survive.
