Bright House: All services restored after outages across Tampa Bay

September 7th, 2011 by Staff – ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) – More than one million Bright House Networks customers across the Tampa Bay area lost their telephone, cable TV and Internet service during a massive network outage that was blamed on a software bug.

Bright House officials say service was restored Tuesday to all effected customers by about 4 p.m.

Customers in several counties lost service, and public safety officials spent the day warning the public to use cell phones to call 911 in an emergency.

A software glitch appears to have caused a cascading series of failures that started about 10:40 a.m. and lasted through 4 p.m. Even the Bright House Networks 24-hour news channel, Bay News 9, lost the ability to broadcast.
