DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – A 15-year-old girl was critically injured Wednesday when a 15-year-old boy beat her up at a bus stop near a school, police said.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the 700 block of Southeast Sixth Avenue, near Deerfield Beach Middle School, just before 3 p.m.
Police said that shortly after school let out, the boy attacked the girl at the bus stop. Witnesses and police said the boy punched the girl and kicked her with steel-toed boots.
Four or five students witnessed the attack. Students said a teacher intervened and pulled the attacker away from the girl.
“It was painful just to see all the blood gushing out of her head. It was nasty,” said student Sexton Spencer.
“It was just crazy for a boy to do that to a girl, a female,” said student Chelsea Adams.
The victim, an eighth-grader at Deerfield Beach Middle, was airlifted to Broward General Medical Center in critical condition.
The 15-year-old suspect, who is a student at Deerfield Beach High School, was taken into custody. Police said he could face attempted murder charges.
Police have not confirmed a possible motive for the attack. Students said the boy and the girl were dating and that there was word of someone talking badly about the boy, so he came after school and attacked the girl, Local 10′s Jen Herrera reported.
