Moments after the not guilty verdict was announced in his infamous murder trial, O.J. Simpson leaned over to whisper something in his attorney’s ear. Simpson’s first words following his acquittal has be the subject of some speculation over the years.

The attorney, Robert Shapiro, finally revealed what Simpson said to him during an interview with Megyn Kelly on Tuesday night.

“You told me this would be the result from the beginning. You were right,” he supposedly said.

Shapiro also said he believes more than one person was responsible for the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman.

The 73-year-old attorney admitted he tried the “if it doesn’t fit” gloves during the trial to determine whether they would fit Simpson.

“O.J. Simpson has enormous hands, and I knew the glove would not fit him. No question about it. Wouldn’t even be close,” he said.

In a particularly raw moment, Kelly asked Shapiro bluntly, “How can you live with yourself?”

“Our system of justice is based on the theory that we hope and pray that innocent people are never convicted,” he said. “And the price we pay is that guilty people sometimes do and will go free.”
