Search is on in Polk Co. for armed and dangerous murder suspects
(BTLS Staff) HAINES CITY, Fla. – Authorities in Central Florida are on the lookout for a pair of armed and dangerous suspects being sought in connection with an armed robbery and a double homicide.
Two other suspects involved in the crime spree that began Thursday afternoon just before 6 pm are in custody.
According to a Polk County Sheriff’s Office report deputies were dispatched to the Cash America Pawn shop located on Havendale Blvd. In Auburndale in response to an robbery in progress call.
Information gathered at the scene indicates three armed black males entered the business and demanded valuables. A fourth man waited outside in a burgundy-colored General Motors Sports Utility Vehicle.
The SUV had fled the scene prior to law enforcement’s arrival. A short time later the vehicle was spotted traveling east on US 17-92 by a Haines City Police Officer.
The suspects fired several shots at the HCPD patrol officer. Fortunately all found missed the officer and the cruiser. The suspects vehicle then crashed near the Chandler Ridge subdivision.
All four men jumped from the vehicle and fled on a foot. A perimeter was set up and one of the suspects was apprehended. Polk County deputies with assistance from the Auburndale Police and Haines City Police departments continued to look for the other three men.
A short time later information was received in regards to suspicious activity at a nearby home. Law enforcement surrounded the dwelling just as a blue car came barreling out of the garage.
The vehicle drove towards deputies and officers at a high rate of speed. They fired at the vehicle, the car stopped and one of the suspects was taken into custody after he was bitten by a K-9 deputy.
The suspect also suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of a non life-threatening injury.
When law enforcement went inside the home two deceased adults were discovered. Investigators have ruled their deaths as homicide.
The two other suspects fled and are still at large.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd is asking residents in this Haines City neighborhood to lock their doors. The two remaining suspects are considered armed and dangerous and a manhunt is under way.
