Reno city council approves first medical marijuana dispensary
(MyNews4.com) RENO, Nev. – The City of Reno is marking a major milestone in making medical marijuana available. The Reno City Council just gave its final — and unanimous — approval to the city’s first dispensary and growing facility.
The name of the group is Sierra Wellness Connection and will be dispensing medical marijuana at their facility located on 2nd Street near Renown Regional Medical Center.
Former University of Nevada President Joe Crowley is a board member for Sierra Wellness Connection.
The company also received approval today to begin growing medical marijuana at a separate facility. That cultivation center will will help provide products to the dispensary.
The company’s website says they will be offering marijuana and cannabis-infused products.
Crowley says the approval process has been quite arduous, but — if all goes as planned — the dispensary could be open as soon as August 2015.
“In this business, you need that kind of process. You want to make sure that you’ve dotted every ‘i’ including some that might have been hiding out somewhere along the line,” says Crowley.
