Port Charlotte man arrested on child pornography charges
(BTLS Staff) PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – A 36-year-old Port Charlotte man is behind bars following his arrest on child pornography charges.
Mitchell Vernon Beach was booked into the Charlotte County Jail where he is being held on a bond of $100,000.
According to a Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office report the department’s Computer Crimes Unit with assistance from the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force executed a warrant at the suspect’s home on Wednesday.
CCSO’s investigation began in January when detectives received information that Beach’s computer was sharing files that had been previously confirmed as pornographic images of children. A search warrant was obtained for the suspect’s resident in the 1300 block of Yorkshire St.
Between early and mid March, investigators were able to connect with a computer in the home. They received a total of 25 images, 21 of which were determined to be pornographic in nature.
Early Wednesday CCSO deputies with assistance from the FBI task force went to Beach’s home where they located the computer in question. Computer Crime detectives used forensic utilities to preview the computer while still at the scene.
Beach was charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
