Mobley is facing a variety of charges; he is being held on a bond of $70,000.

(WSOCTV.COM) ROCK HILL, S.C. – A man was arrested after he was found with a stolen gun after acting suspiciously and watching girls near a school bus, Rock Hill police said.

Rock Hill police were called to the 300 block of Chestnut Street after a suspicious man, wearing all black clothing, was watching girls near a school bus stop. A resident noticed him peering over the bushes.

“Fortunately we had several officers in the area working traffic enforcement,” said Capt. Mark Bollinger with the Rock Hill Police Department.

When police interviewed the man, identified as Michael Mobley, 25, they said he attempted to flee when they asked if he had anything illegal on him.

After a brief struggle, police said Mobley was placed under arrest and a firearm was found in his pants. Police said the Smith and Wesson was reported stolen from Rock Hill Police Department.

When police searched Mobley, they found a pair of latex gloves, a yellow rope, three condoms, a tube of lubricant, a box cutter and a cellphone. That raised serious questions for police.

“What was he doing there and what were his intentions?” Bollinger said.

This happened one block away from a day care and an early education school. The items are suspicious, officials said, but not illegal.

A friend of Mobley’s said this is all a misunderstanding.

“He had a rope in his pocket for his dog,” Mary Lumpkin said.

Police said Mobley’s criminal history prohibits him from possessing a firearm.

He was charged with possession of a stolen piston, carrying a pistol unlawfully, possession of a pistol by a person prohibited, possession of a pistol with the serial number removed/obliterated and resisting arrest.

Police said they will look through their archives to see if Mobley may have been involved in any similar unsolved cases. They will add extra patrols around bus stops for the next few days.

He was given a $70,000 bond.
