Emery, 57, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound early Tuesday.

PINELLAS PARK, Fl. – A 57-year-old Bay area man died early Tuesday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Dennis Eugene Emery was pronounced dead at the scene just after 6 am.

According to a Pinellas Park Police Department report officers were dispatched to a residence in the 5200 block of 87th Ave. North in response to a disturbance call. When they arrived they were met outside the home by several family members of the deceased.

The report states Emery was arguing with his wife when he brandished a firearm and threatened to shoot one of the couple’s dogs. He pulled the hammer back as if he was going to go through with his threat but as he started to pull the weapon back it went off.

The bullet struck Emery in the face.

Investigators say they had encountered Emery before Tuesday’s incident. PPPD had over 30 contacts with the deceased in the past two years. In a five-day period in October he was arrested three times on a variety of charges including domestic battery, aggravated assault, resisting arrest and leaving the scene of an accident.

The investigation continues.
