(BTLS Staff) PINELLAS PARK, Fla. – A 46-year-old St. Petersburg man was arrested Tuesday on a variety of charges stemming from an incident that occurred at a Pinellas Park grocery store.

Todd Jay Mills was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on armed robbery, aggravated assault with a firearm and violation of probation charges.

He is being held without bond.

According to a Pinellas Park Police Department report officers were dispatched to the Aldi location at 6700 block of 66th St. North just after 1 pm in response to an attempted robbery call.

Investigators say Mills entered the store, selected an item and waited in line for several minutes before he approached the cashier and demanded cash. He brandished a handgun and as he did so several customers and other store employees physically engaged the gunman.

During a struggle the weapon discharged but fortunately nobody was injured. Mills was restrained and taken into custody when officers arrived.

He is no stranger to law enforcement. Mills has several prior arrests in Orange County – Orlando – on drug and driving charges.
