Pennsylvania man commits murder-suicide with chainsaw
(NY Daily News) MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Pa. – A Pennsylvania man slaughtered his wife with a chainsaw and then turned the power tool on himself in a gruesome murder-suicide, authorities said.
Christopher Peppelman, 48, hacked 43-year-old estranged wife Nicole in the abdomen, according to the Montgomery County coroner.
The mother of the couple’s three kids had also been choked and stabbed, but it was the chainsaw attack that likely killed her, coroner Dr. Walter Hofman told the Daily News.
Christopher Peppelman died of “gaping, sharp-force wounds” to his abdomen and thigh from the chainsaw, Hofman said.
The couple’s 14-year-old son discovered the ghastly scene and called 911 at 12:50 pm. on Monday, authorities said.
The couple, who had separated, also had boys in the third and sixth grades,WPVI reported.
Nicole and the boys had moved out and were living with her parents, according to the station.
Montgomery County investigators still don’t know what caused the husband to snap and were releasing no further details on Wednesday, prosecutors said.
“It’s an unfortunate, tragic situation,” First Assistant District Attorney Kevin Steele told the Daily News.
Suicide by chainsaw is rare, but not unheard of, the coroner said.
“They’re not common, because there’s a lot of injuries with these,” Hofman said. “But if something can do it, it will do it.”
