Ohio news anchor calls Lady Gaga tune ‘Jigaboo music,’ apologizes

Capel made the comment during an early morning newscast on Monday.

(MediaIte) CLEVELAND, Ohio – Last night at the Oscars, Lady Gaga sang a medley of songs from The Sound of Music, stunning everyone with her insane range and beautiful voice.

It certainly astounded Ohio Fox8 anchor Kristi Capel, who noted that “it’s hard to hear her voice under all that jigaboo music. Jigaboo. That’s what I call it.”

If you want to understand why her black co-anchor sat there awkwardly, here’s the definition of “jigaboo” from UrbanDictionary.com:

It should be noted that Gaga’s musical influences skew heavily towards non-R&B/rap/hip-hop/blues/jazz artists, like David Bowie and Iron Maiden, and that she recently did a collaboration album with the ultimate white dude, Tony Bennett.

Also, she sang a medley from a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical.

Capel later said she had no idea what “jigaboo” meant, and repeatedly apologized to Twitter users:

@Kristi_Capel on @fox8news decides to call Lady Gaga’s music as “jiggaboo” music. Not once but twice!!! Wow!!!

Kristi Capel @Kristi_Capel
@John_Ferguson_@fox8news I apologize if I offended you, I had no idea it was a word or what it meant. Thank you for watching.
