(BTLS Staff) NORTH PORT, Fla. – A 26-year-old North Port man is facing a variety of charges stemming from a road rage incident that occurred early Saturday morning.

Christopher Edward Gayle was booked into the Sarasota County Jail where he is being held on a bond of $121,500.

According to a North Port Police Department report officers responded to a rollover crash on East Hillsborough Blvd. Just west of Yorkshire St. a little before 1 am. The investigation revealed that the occupants of two vehicles were involved in an argument when one driver intentionally caused the other to lose control causing a crash.

The second vehicle fled the scene without calling for assistance or rendering aid. Two people in the other vehicle suffered significant injuries. One of the injured was airlifted by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.

Another was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Gayle was eventually identified as the driver of the vehicle that left the scene. He was located several hours later by detectives with the North Port Police Department.

He is facing two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, one count of failure to render aid at the scene of a crash and one count of operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license.

This is not Gayle’s first brush with law enforcement. In October 2012 he was charged with uttering a forged document and credit card fraud.
