NC teen’s ‘cute’ mug shot goes viral
(WSAV.COM) RALEIGH, NC – The mugshot of a Cary teen arrested on drug charges is going viral nearly a month after her arrest.
Alysa Suguro Bathrick, 18, was arrested at the Wake County Detention Center on Nov. 19 on charges of possession with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule IV controlled substance, as well as maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for controlled substances.
While it has been several weeks since her arrest, Bathrick ignited a social media firestorm when she tweeted her mugshot on Dec. 1 along with the message, “Surrendered myself at 7 am., got released at 11:30 am. … And my mugshot’s cute.”
Some of the responses she has received to her tweet include, “Bruh, I’d bail her out any time” and “Pretty sure I just fell in love with you.”
The arrest record does not indicate what drugs Bathrick is accused of selling, but the Department of Justice classifies a Schedule IV drug as substances that “have a low potential for abuse relative to substances in Schedule III.”
Examples of Schedule IV substances include Xanax, Soma, Klonopin, Tranxene, Valium, Ativan, Versed, Restoril and Halcion.
While many have taken to Twitter and Internet message boards to express admiration of the 18-year-old, she’s also been met by criticism.
“To everyone who [expletive] on my name. … Keep thinking I care,” she tweeted.
In another tweet, she wrote, “What runs through people’s mouths and what’s posted virally doesn’t even begin to dip into the complexity of the story behind my charges.”
Bathrick’s is the latest mugshot to go viral this year. In June, the mugshot of Jeremy Meeks, a California man, took social media by storm when the Stockton Police Department posted his photo on its Facebook page.
After Meeks was indicted on federal gun charges, he was no longer allowed to be photographed or filmed while in custody.
