Man who used puppy to beat girlfriend going to prison

Tucker, 51, will spend the next four months behind bars as part of a plea agreement reached on Tuesday.

(KTLA.COM) KALAMAZOO, Mich. – A Michigan man was sentenced to 6 months in jail Tuesday after pleading guilty to an assault on his girlfriend in which a  2-week-old puppy was also killed, according to KTLA sister station WXMI.

According to police, Timothy Tucker had used the couple’s puppy to beat the woman last November in Kalamazoo, causing swelling in her eye, the television station reported.

In exchange for the guilty plea to felony assault in December, prosecutors dropped the charge for killing and torturing the small dog, according to the station and online publication Michigan Live.

Tucker, 51, was given credit for 68 days of time already served during Tuesday’s sentencing, meaning he has roughly four months remaining on the sentence.

Prosecutors described the case as stomach-turning.

“This is one of the few cases that turns my stomach,”  Kalamazoo County Assistant Prosecutor Mike Reisterer told Michigan Live. “To take a two-week-old puppy and bludgeon his significant other to the point that she requires hospitalization and the puppy is dead … is incomprehensible.”

Tucker had a lengthy record that included a history of domestic violence, according to WXMI, which noted that the November incident had been his fifth arrest for the offense.

Prosecutors took that into consideration during his sentencing.

“Due to the level of violence and Mr. Tucker’s prior criminal history we thought that prison was an appropriate consequence,” prosecutor Jeff Getting told WXMI.

After Tucker’s release from jail, he will be placed in a strict probation program called Swift and Sure Sanctions Program, the station reported.
