Longtime Fox 13 reporter Warren Elly passes away from cancer at 64
(MyFoxTampaBay.com) TAMPA, Fla. – The FOX 13 family is grieving the loss of retired journalist Warren Elly, our ace reporter here for nearly three decades.
Warren died this morning after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 64.
Warren came to Channel 13 in 1982 from Youngstown, Ohio. He cut his Bay Area reporting teeth in St. Pete and Pinellas County.
Then Tampa became Warren’s base, where he covered the police beat, courts, politics, and beyond — all the way to deep space.
Warren’s home away from home was the Kennedy Space Center. He loved it. NASA and the shuttle program became his playground.
Warren retired in 2011 and took on a full-time assignment: Visiting family, welcoming grandchildren into the world, indulging his ham radio hobby, and Rays baseball.
When cancer intruded into Warren’s life, he challenged himself, writing a daily web blog for all to see. In typical Warren Elly gusto, he wrote, “I’m not resigned to anything except the fight. With each tick of the clock, I am more determined to fight.”
And fight he did — all the way to the end.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Warren’s wife and the entire Elly family.
