Knight could be facing criminal charges as the investigation continues.

(Associated Press) COMPTON, Calif. – A lawyer for Marion ‘‘Suge’’ Knight says the Death Row Records founder was at the wheel of a car that struck two men, killing one, in a Los Angeles suburb.

The accident in Compton occurred shortly before 3 pm. Thursday.

James Blatt tells KABC-TV that Knight says he was attacked by two people and tried to escape in the car.

Blatt says Knight struck and killed a friend named Terry Carter and slightly injured Cle Sloan, an actor who appeared in the movie ‘‘Training Day.’’

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department says two men were taken to a hospital, where one was pronounced dead and the other’s condition is unknown.

Another Knight lawyer, Joseph Low, declined to say whether Knight was involved in the accident but said he will cooperate with investigators.

Carter, 84, was an American actor and filmmaker, known for his roles on the TV series McCloud and Battlestar Galactica.

TMZ.com first reported that Knight was involved.
