Demirhan, 47, was arrested on Saturday. She is being held without bond at the Polk County Jail.

(BTLS Staff) LAKELAND – A 47-year-old Lakeland woman is in the Polk County Jail facing solicitation to commit first-degree murder charges.

Tanya Senay Demirhan was arrested on Saturday and is being held without bond. Who did she want killed? Her husband.

According to a Polk County Sheriff’s Office report last week a confidential informant familiar to the department contacted investigators about being approached about making Demirhan’s husband ‘go away.’

The informant, after consulting with detectives, provided the suspect with the name of a ‘hitman’ that would be willing to carry out the task. The ‘hitman’ was in actuality an undercover officer with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Demirhan contacted the ‘hitman’ over the weekend and agreed to meet with him at Banana Lake Park in Lakeland to discuss the situation. The suspect arrived at the location, walked over the undercover officer’s vehicle and got inside.

The two engaged in conversation in which she intentionally and willfully solicited the undercover officer to ‘murder her husband.’ Demirhan told him she would pay him $10,000 but said she did not have any access to cash.

She added that she had the titles of four vehicles that she could transfer to him in lieu of payment. The suspect told the undercover officer that she wanted the murder to happen very soon.

A couple hours later Demirhan again met up with the undercover officer/hitman and handed him the title to a 2012 Ford van. The suspect also signed a hand-written note promising to pay him ‘$10,000 for his service.’

As Demirhan exited the undercover officer’s vehicle she told him to ‘have fun.’

A short time later Polk County detectives met up with the suspect not far from her Lakeland home. The detectives asked her to come to a nearby Sheriff’s Office substation to discuss and ‘incident’ regarding her husband.

After telling the suspect that her husband had been shot, Demirhan played the part of the grieving widow. When detectives told the suspect they were on to her, she denied knowing the undercover officer/hitman and denied any involvement in any plan to have her husband killed.

In addition to the solicitation for murder charge, Demirhan is also facing one count of unlawful use of a two-way communication device.

Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
