Lakeland man arrested on multiple child porn-related charges

(BTLS Staff) LAKELAND, Fla. – A 43-year-old Lakeland man is being held without bond following his arrest Tuesday on child pornography possession charges.

Alvin Thomas Sansom was booked into the Polk County Jail where he is being held without bond.

According to a Polk County Sheriff’s Office report detectives recently received information that the suspect was downloading and sharing images of young children engaged in sex acts via the Internet.

Sansom is facing 20 counts of possession of child pornography.

PCSO detectives executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence just after 3:30 pm Tuesday. Investigators conducted a preview of the computer and discovered 20 videos containing child porn. The youngest child on the images appeared to be four the report states.

Sansom admitted to downloading the images even though he knew it was ‘wrong.’

Detectives will conduct a full forensic examination of the suspect’s computer and additional charges are expected to be filed. Sansom had access to two young children – both under the age of eight.

Detectives with PCSO’s Special Victims Unit interviewed the children and determined they had not been abused by Sansom. The Department of Children and Families were notified and told of the suspect’s arrest.

Sansom is no stranger to law enforcement in Polk County. He’s been arrested on six previous occasions on a variety of charges including driving under the influence, drug possession, domestic battery and retail theft.

The investigation continues.
