Police say Ladd spent thousands of dollars on gifts for the students.

(RTV 6 The Indy Channel) MIAMI COUNTY, Indiana – A Miami County teacher was accused of having a sexual relationship with multiple students and giving them guns and alcohol as presents.

Michelle Ladd, an instructional assistant with the Maconaquah School Corporation’s alternative program, allegedly had a sexual relationship with two 17-year-old boys over the last few years, officials with the Miami County Sheriff’s Office said.

Ladd is accused of starting a relationship with one of the students in 2010 when she and her husband hired the teen to do work at their farm.

She allegedly started a relationship with the second student in 2013, shortly after he was released from a youth center after being arrested on a burglary charge.

The Miami County sheriff said Ladd spent thousands of dollars on gifts, including alcohol, weapons and even cars.
Ladd was arrested Monday on felony charges of child seduction, unlawful transfer of a handgun and a misdemeanor charge of providing alcohol to a minor.

Maconaquah School Corporation Superintendent Doug Arnold said Ladd performed well and helped students who struggled academically and socially.

“She did a really good job in that capacity, and people in the community know her and were just very surprised, it came out of nowhere,” Arnold said.

Arnold said Ladd has been placed on administrative leave.

“We’re working with our attorney to determine the steps that we take, quite honestly, to terminate. My intention is to ask the board to terminate her at our February board meeting,” Arnold said.

Ladd was scheduled to make her initial court appearance on Feb. 19.  The Miami County sheriff said the investigation is ongoing.
