(BTLS Staff) FROSTPROOF, Fla. – A 26-year-old Frostproof man died Monday after he was struck by a train while jogging along US Highway 27.

Edwardo Salazar was pronounced dead at the scene just after noon.

According to a Polk County Sheriff’s Office report the deceased was hit by the Amtrak 98 Silver Meteor train just after making a stop in Sebring. It was traveling from Miami to New York and was heading to a stop in Winter Haven when the incident occurred.

Witnesses say Salazar was wearing ear-buds from an I-Pod when he was struck on Monday. The conductor of the train told investigators he had just traveled under the US 27 overpass near Charles St. when Salazar jogged up next to the track.

The conductor blew the horn several times but he failed to get the man’s attention. He veered into the path of the train and was hit.

Foul play is not suspected as the investigation continues.
