The robbery occurred Monday night at this store in Stuart.

(WPBF.COM) STUART, Fla. – A 15-year-old confessed to robbing the same grocery store twice with a toy gun, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

”We have some real concerns that he doesn’t understand the ramifications of what he did and how close he came to getting killed,” Sheriff William Snyder said.

Antonio Villchis, of Stuart, was nabbed after allegedly robbing La Placita grocery store on Indian Street on Monday night. Undercover deputies happened to be right nearby conducting surveillance in the area when the store clerk activated the panic alarm.

Snyder said when his deputies started chasing the teenager on foot, they had no way of knowing that Villchis was a juvenile and that his gun wasn’t actually real.

“One bad move on his part we would have had a dead teenager,” Snyder said. “He could have easily been killed, and it would have been a real tragedy. Fortunately the deputies used good judgement, they took a chance at their own risk and held back.”

Snyder said the deputies released a K9 and were able to take Villchis into custody without injuring him.

Snyder said Villchis showed little remorse, but confessed to Monday night’s robbery as well admitting he robbed the same grocery store last month. The teen did not have any prior criminal history, according to Snyder.
