Fla. mall reopens after shooting that left two dead
(Fox 35 Orlando) MELBOURNE, Fla. – The deceased victim from the shooting in The Melbourne Square Mall has been identified as Leonardo Coppola, 36, of West Melbourne. Coppola was the owner of a restaurant in the mall’s food court.
On Saturday, officials said the suspected shooter, Jose Garcia-Rodriguez, 57, of Palm Bay shot his wife, Ida Garcia, 33, also of Palm Bay, and Coppola.
Coppola was shot and killed while attempting to move Garcia from the shots fired by Garcia-Rodriguez, according to a report.
In a press conference, police said Garcia-Rodriguez died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Melbourne Square Mall reopened Sunday for normal business hours after a shooting Saturday that left two people dead and one injured.
Melbourne Police said they responded to the mall around 9:30 am. Saturday after a report of shots fired inside. Officials from other agencies also responded.
Garcia was taken to the hospital and was listed in good condition.
Police recovered three handguns at the scene, and found Rodriguez’s pockets to be full of ammunition.
At the time of the incident, officers went store to store looking for any suspects, victims and witnesses while evacuating the mall, police said.
