FHP seeks information in fatal hit-and-run crash
(BTLS Staff) TAMPA, Fla. – Authorities are seeking the public’s help in identifying a hit-and-run driver who fled a fatal crash that claimed the life of a Tampa man.
Joshua Contreras, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene just after 11 pm on Tuesday, January 27th.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report the Hillsborough County resident pulled his 1993 Chevrolet pick-up truck to the right shoulder of Interstate 4 near US 301 when it stopped running.
Contreras was struck as he was standing outside of his vehicle on the side closest to the roadway.
Investigators believe the hit-and-run driver was behind the wheel of a red Nissan Altima, model years between 2012-14.
His parents, who live in New Jersey, came to Florida to ask for help.
“We need someone to pay for this. Please come forward,” said Doris Contreras, the victim’s mother. “This pain is too much, you don’t know what it’s like.”
FHP Spokesman Steve Gaskins says the suspect vehicle likely has significant front-end damage.
