Fey, Poehler cast barbs Bill Cosby’s way during Golden Globes
(Variety) HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – Tina Fey and Amy Poehler promised Bill Cosby jokes, and, really, the only surprise was that it took them nine minutes to do it. The duo lobbed a series of barbs at the embattled comedian in their Golden Globes opening jokes Sunday, including their very best Cosby impressions.
Poehler opened the cracks in her description of “Into the Woods,” saying, “Cinderella runs from her prince, Rapunzel is thrown from a tower for her prince, and Sleeping Beauty just thought she was getting coffee with Bill Cosby.”
There’s a saying in comedy that posits that every comedian has a Cobsy impression, and Amy and Tina broke out their best, with
Fey saying, “Bill Cosby has finally spoken out about the allegations against him. Cosby admitted to a reporter” – as she launches into a Cosby voice – “‘I put the pills in the people! The people didn’t want the pills in them!’”
Poehler corrected her, starting, “That’s not right. It’s more like” – as she put on her own impression – “‘I got the pills in the bathroom and I put them in the people!’”
The jokes drew some shocked faces from celebrities in attendance, but Fey gave them fair warning.
When asked in an interview with Access Hollywood last week whether they’d joke about the Cosby controversy, Fey responded, “Oh, heck yes!”
