FDLE: Central Fla. doctor, wife arrested on manslaughter charges
(WESH.COM) ORLANDO, Fla. – A doctor and his wife accused of running a pill mill have been arrested and charged, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
FDLE said Dr. Ibem Borges, 53, and his wife, Wanda I. Otero, 54, are both charged with racketeering and conspiracy to commit racketeering after making millions by running the pill mill.
Borges is also charged with three counts of trafficking oxycodone and one count of manslaughter, after one of his patients died of an overdose, FDLE said.
The investigation was launched 18 months ago after agents raided two clinics located at 1207 East Vine Street in Kissimmee and 1800 W. Oak Ridge Road in Orlando.
FDLE said Borges distributed up to 5 million pills.
Authorities said patients were prescribed controlled substances regardless of their needs.
Borges is being held on $400,000 bond and Otero is being held on $200,000 bond.
