DUI crash in Sarasota shuts down US 41/US 301 intersection

The crash occurred at approximately 2:30 am Tuesday.


(BTLS Staff) SARASOTA, Fla. – A single-vehicle crash and subsequent clean-up closed the intersection at US 41 and US 301 in Sarasota early Tuesday.

The incident occurred just before 2:30 am.

According to a Sarasota Police Department report alcohol appears to have played a role in the crash. The identity of the driver has not been released. He suffered non, life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Investigators say the vehicle was traveling south on Mound Ave. approaching the intersection when he lost control of the car. It crossed the center median and struck a palm tree.

The impact severely damaged the vehicle and an extreme amount of engine fluids and oils spilled onto the roadway. A crew with the Sarasota Public Works Department also responded to the scene to assist with the cleanup.

The fluid removal process took several hours. The roadway was re-opened just after 6 am.

No charges have been filed at this time as the investigation continues.
