The woman suffered second-degree burns to her arm and the right side of her body.

(WFTV.COM) TAVARES – A disabled Lake County woman was in her bed when police said her daughter lit the bed on fire.
Family members said the mother and daughter, who live on Disston Avenue in Tavares, never got along.

The suspect’s ex-husband said he thinks the victim set the fire herself and that his ex-wife shouldn’t be held responsible.

“I arrived home from the store to find the fire burning,” Wyatt Stroup said.

Stroup said he had just pulled into the driveway on Thursday and saw some coming from the garage apartment where his ex-mother-in-law lives.

“I got down on the ground and I could see her on the ground. I couldn’t see anything. The whole room was full of smoke and the bed was on fire,” Stroup said.

He said he pulled her to safety with second-degree burns to her arm and the side of her body.

According to the State Fire Marshal, her daughter, Jordan Wood, 38, is to blame.

Wood was arrested after allegedly hitting her handicapped mother in the head with a cell phone then setting a book on fire with cigarette lighter and throwing it on her mother’s ben.

Stroup said Wood and her mother were always arguing.

“I believe Joanne lit the fire herself. Her mother,” Stroup said.

As the charred remains of the bed sat in front of the home where a mother nearly lost her life, her daughter remains behind cars on arson charges.

Wood is being held in the Lake County jail on $100,000 bond.
