Cash, jewelry, gun stolen from rapper’s South Fla. home
(WSVN.COM) MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A revolver and nearly $500,000 worth of money and jewelry were stolen from the safe of a rapper in his Miami Beach home.
According to Miami Police, Shazad Nawaz, who goes by the name Prince Malik, had a safe stolen from his home on 23rd and Collins, Saturday. “I had my firearm in there, my gun, with the license in there,” he said.
The combination safe had been mounted on the wall in his bedroom closet. It contained a Smith & Wesson revolver, $20,000 in U.S. currency and nearly $460,000 worth of jewelry. “If you see over here, I think somebody used a metal or something to open this thing,” said Nawaz as he pointed out the door knob.
The New York native said the crook, or crooks, then made their way into his bedroom. “This door was closed. [They] opened this door, then they went inside. Here this was a safe,” he said.
Nawaz believes the crook left the home between 12 am. and 2 am. while he was out on the town, early Saturday morning. “I would say one person can carry it, but you can’t just put it in your pocket and walk out. It has to be visibly carried,” said Nawaz.
According to the report, “The Property Management Office was contacted reference retrieving video surveillance.”
When 7News asked to view the surveillance footage, it was said that it is currently under lock and key as the case is being investigated.
David Bolton, a private investigator, believes this case is connected to several other high-priced heists in the area. “There’s basic security features here in the building. Unfortunately, some of them aren’t functioning or functioning well,” he said, “which allowed the individuals to enter the building.”
Nawaz hopes sharing what took place in his home will help capture those responsible. “I want these people to be behind the bar,” he said.
If you have any information on this crime, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a $1,000 reward, along with a $50,000 reward that Nawaz is offering.
