Due to inclement weather, the band has been delayed in Ft. Lauderdale and cannot get up here in time for the show tonight. We greatly apologize for the inconvenience; however this is completely out of our control at this time.

As many of you might have heard through out this last week, this past Friday night marked the arrival of the Stone Temple Pilots in concert to the Ford Amphitheatre in Tampa as part of their reunion tour. I was very excited to get tickets to this event as I grew up listening to them and loved their music. Spice had heard a story through the grape vine, though, that would raise suspicion in my mind as to whether or not the band would actually take the stage on time - if even at all.
The story is not confirmed as true, but merely a rumor heard, but is a good story either way. The way it goes is that the band has been traveling in two separate tour buses, one for Scott Weiland and one for the band, since they don't necessarily get along. At a previous show, the band was outside of Scott's tour bus waiting on him to come out so that they could take the stage at their scheduled time. The drapes on Scott's tour bus were all down, but the band could see Scott peeking periodically from through the drapes to see if the band was still waiting out there. After quite a while of waiting, one of the band members left the group to go to the bathroom. As soon as the band member had left sight, the door to Scott's tour bus swings open and out rushes Scott making a bee-line for the stage. Once on stage, Scott starts yelling at the band, "Come on guys, I've been waiting on you for a while! Let's go!" After hearing this story, this raised a bit of suspicion in my mind as to what could be expected the following night at the concert.
My girlfriend and I arrived at Ford Amphitheatre at around 8:40pm, since we were told by the box office STP would be taking the stage at 8:45pm, and we heard the opening act, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, still on stage. I didn't think much of it until we finally took our seats around close to 9:00pm and their set wasn't even finished yet. You could tell the venue was taking them long because something was up, no one even knew who this band was. After the band finally finished and the roadies setup STP's equipment and checked everything, it was 9:15pm. After about 30 minutes, rumors started circulating as to the whereabouts of the band. One guy told me he heard, "The lead singer is back on 'H' again and is too wasted to go on." Another person said, "The band isn't even here, they're just stalling to see if they arrive."
At around 10:00pm, the fans started getting very angry and anxious. There were chants of "Weiland sucks!" and "Bull-shit!" resonating from the pit and echoing into the seats where a few people were repeating them. Eventually, fans in the seats started pounding on the empty seats where people had already left trying to pressure the band to come out and play. Finally, at 10:30pm, an hour and a half after the opening act left the stage, the announcement came. As if reading from a book, the person announced, "Due to inclement weather, the band's plane has been delayed in Ft. Lauderdale and cannot get up here in time for the show tonight. We greatly apologize for the inconvenience; however this is completely out of our control at this time. PLEASE HOLD ON TO YOUR TICKETS and listen to your favorite radio station or go online to LiveNation.com for updates on a future scheduled performance."
If the band is traveling in two seperate tour buses, why would their flight be delayed in Ft. Lauderdale? Which, by the way, there was no inclement weather in or around Ft. Lauderdale when I checked the radar. Furthermore, it was reported by a listener on this morning's show that he confirmed that the band was staying at a hotel in Sarasota, FL. They were wasted, with "glossy eyes" and trashing the place. Needless to say, the fans were not happy campers after the announcement was made and luckily I had my digital camera handy on Video Mode for all the action. Be sure to check out the video above.
I don't expect Stone Temple Pilots to come back and play again as promised. LiveNation did everything in it's power to stall while trying to get the band on to play for the fans, I don't blame them one bit. I'm sure they did everything in their power to get them on. The fault lies solely in the hands of the band. I believe this is the end of the reunion tour -- or at least the beginning of the end.
